It was August of 1833, shortly after he had been brutally tarred and feathered that Bishop Edward Partridge wrote in a letter, “I am willing to spend and be spent in the cause of the Blessed Master.” And his life proved the truth of his declaration. Edward Partridge was the first Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It could well be said that no man other than the Prophet Joseph Smith endured more to build the kingdom in that first decade of Mormonism than Edward Partridge. He was true and faithful from his baptism to the day of his early death. This History of the Saints special presentation is devoted to the life of Edward Partridge—“One of the Lord’s great men.”
