Description
The Battalion was discharged from service in Los Angeles on July 16, 1847. From there the men began their journey to find their families. Some families like that of Ezra Allen would never unite because of Ezra’s death in California. Others experienced reunions of great joy. The efforts of some of the men to return to their families were heroic. President Young would declare the service of the Mormon Battalion in 1846-47 to be “the salvation of this Church.”
