Season 2 Episode 28 Settling Zion Part 1 The First Settlements

$2.99

The story of the first settlements in the American West by the Mormons.

Description

The Salt Lake Temple was the center place for the establishment of Zion in the Great Basin. The influx of settlers quickly overran Salt Lake City and they began to move out to other areas, drawn first by available water and grazing land. The official settlements of the Church were relatively few. Most settlements were begun by the initiative of individual settlers. The San Pete Valley was established in 1849 by many Danish emigrants. Utah Valley was also settled in 1849. The intent of President Young was to have a continuous string of settlements running from Salt Lake City on the north all the way to San Diego, California on the south. The effort with some of those official settlements was to mark the boundaries of the State of Deseret.
