Season 2 Show 29 Settling Zion Part 2 Building the West

$2.99

When the saints built their settlements they were really colonizing the American West.

Description

Underlying all the settlement efforts of the Latter-day Saints was the building up of Zion and making the desert blossom as the rose. The Saints emphasized living in unity as a village community. They lived and worked as a community with their farms surrounding the town, all of this under the direction of the Priesthood. Resources such as timber and water were carefully managed and allocated to the benefit of all. The Saints worked at self-sufficiency. Other settlements were established to preach to the Indians. Latter-day Saints continued to settle the West into the Twentieth Century. These settlements would significantly shape the American West.
