Description

By November 7, 1833, the banks of the Missouri River were lined with Mormons fleeing mobs. Nearly 1200 Saints had been driven from Jackson County so quickly there was not time to gather the necessary supplies to survive the elements. Families became separated in the confusion and searched for each other in the darkness along the River—as night fell and the rain came. It was one of the darkest periods in Church history.
