To the Latter-day Saints of 1834, Zion was foremost on their mind. It was to be for them a “land of peace, a city a refuge, a place of safety.” It was to be the place where they would gather in preparation for the imminent return of the Lord. Hence, when mobs drove them off their land, there was confusion and consternation. How could this happen? Then came the promise of the Lord that Zion could be redeemed, or returned to the Saints. And that begins the story of Zion’s Camp.
