Season 5 Show 17 Violence in Jackson County
Tensions were mounting in Jackson County, Missouri in the summer of 1833. Latter-day Saints had moved into the county in increasing numbers bringing with them their unique religious practices and the customs and culture of northerners. They settled in next to the Missourians who were mostly southerners. The Missourians felt threatened by the Mormons and there was talk of drastic measures if they kept coming. And then 400 more Mormons entered the county and tempers began to flare.
