Sally Heller Conrad

Undoubtedly when Sally took the job she hadn’t planned on this.  She was 18 years old and hired on to help out a busy mother around the house. The home was small and in addition to the large family already living there, there were guests living at the house as well.

Something was going on upstairs. One day Sally noticed a couple of young men come down from the second story. They looked most unusual. Their faces were “exceedingly white and strange.” She asked the family why they looked that way, but no one would tell her. It was like some kind of secret that the family had.

As time passed it happened again and again, and each time Sally saw them, their faces were that same unearthly white. It frightened her, until finally, she went to the lady of the house and announced “that she would not stay with her until she knew the cause of the strange looks of these men.”

The lady of that house was Mother Mary Whitmer of Fayette, New York. It was June 1829. Mother Whitmer explained to Sally that those two men, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, were translating an ancient record written upon gold plates by the gift and power of God, and “that the power of God was so great in the room that they could hardly endure it; at times angels were in the room in their glory, which nearly consumed them.”

“This satisfied the girl and opened the way to embracing the Gospel.”

Sally Heller Conrad married in the faith, came west, and died in Provo, Utah, July 23, 1903.  She was 92 years old.

  1. Converting from another faith, I was raised ignorant to the “Mormon” beliefs. I came from Tennessee to Mesa, Arizona in 2002. I could not grasp what had transpired in those pioneer days. The fact is, the adversary could closed my mind to any factual accounts that are going on in this world pertaining to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I was shut off from the Spirit. I had always believed in all three and in the King James version of the Holy Bible. Thanks to God for sending Elder Previn Menon to my hotel room and listening to what my questions concerned. I was more sarcastic than questioning, however, God was present with us that day as He always has been. Elder Menon asked me to pray with a “sincere heart” and ask God for the knowledge I was in question about. What a revelation, ask God for knowledge? The key being, “with real intent and a sincere heart”. I got my answers in God’s time of course, and the answers came almost immediately. I have the same God in my life today that parted the sea for Moses, the same Jesus Christ that healed the sick, fed the multitudes, and died on a cross for our(my) sins, and walked the earth as a man, and was risen on the third day, and I call Savior today. God bless those pioneers that plowed the ground and followed the prophet that eventually led me back to where I am today. God opened my eyes and heart that day Elder Menon knocked on my door and I let him in. God bless all the missionaries everywhere. I am the one soul in whose life you have made all the difference. If you are in doubt about any beliefs or the Book of Mormon, ask God about it. He knows. Sincerely and Respectfully and Proud to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, Ernest Reed Blankenship…Mesa, Arizona

    1. what a wonderful testimony. I learn so much from these true stories. it makes my testimony stronger

    2. My saving souls were a couple of young missionaries… Elders Young and Warnick. Warnick was transferred shortly after our 1st meeting and then came Olsen.. These young boys were my saving grace. They taught me welcomed me into the church and baptized me. I will always owe them a debt of gratitude than can only be paid back by bringing more lost souls to this wonderful “TRUE” Church! The Book of Mormon is true and my testamony is growing daily..

    3. Thank you for your sweet testimony. Undoubtedly, you have strengthened many others and YOU are a pioneer too!

    4. Thank you so much for your testimony. I am a convert too. I always believe in God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Ghost. But I was raise believing that The Father and the Son are one not a separate being. But now I know the truth. They are one in their purpose but they are in separate being. I am grateful to the missionaries who shared to me the true gospel.
